Welcome to Talbot Textiles

We have been providing fabrics and accessories for the upholstery trade in Ireland for over 50 years. We’re a family-run business, situated in Belfast, famous for its Textile Merchants and, of course, the ill-fated HMS Titanic. In fact, our main warehouse is just across the Lough from the Titanic Quarter where the famous ship was built. The company was founded by Mr. Sylvester Kelly and his brother-in-law, Mr. James Donaghy, in the middle of the last century. The company traded as Donaghy & Kelly Ltd. whose main activity involved the sole distribution, throughout Ireland of latex rubber cushions from the mighty Dunlop’s. The arrival of polyurethane foam triggered the demise of latex cushions so the company decided to move into supplying fabric to the Upholstery Manufacturing trade. This proved to be successful and by the late 1970’s the company had acquired its own weaving mill in Lancashire. The eighties witnessed further expansion with the erection of a purpose-built, 32,000 sq. ft., warehouse and the acquisition of the Glasgow based main competitor, B. Couts & Sons Ltd. Today, there are six companies in the Group, all of which are involved with fabrics for the curtain and upholstery trades. The retail division includes the very successful e-commerce website, madaboutfabrics.com
